Joseph, Sumit H Social Sciences (General) A conducive school environment is a precondition to enhance the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. To what extent do the children enjoy the school hours? As such, this study focuses on the extent and the nature of bullying behaviour among the pupils in the primary schools in Sarikei Town. The objectives of this study are to find out the frequency of boys and girls between the ages of 9 to 12 years old engage in the different forms of bullying behaviour; to discover the reaction of the victims towards bullies and to justify the factors that could encourage bullying behaviour. A total of 240 pupils consisting of Year 3 to Year 6 from four schools had been selected as the samples. The data from the questionnaire shows that bullying behaviour is quite extensive among the pupils in this town. More boys reported as bullies and also as victims compared with girls. The study also discovered various forms and factors regarding the bullying behaviour. The findings suggested that several measures involving the roles of the schools, parents and the society are highly recommended to curb this problem before it become serious.
