Description
Summary:Resilience is an element that is considered important by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. It is also set as one of the profiles that must exist in individual pupils in order to survive the increasingly challenging global world. Local resilience studies that have been conducted by some previous researchers have less focus on aspects of parenting style and emotional intelligence. Therefore, studies related to parenting style and emotional intelligence on the development of resilience in the local context are indispensable. The purpose of this study is to identify the extent to which parenting styles (permissive and autoritative) and emotional intelligence influence the resilience. This study used survey method and 329 respondents responded to the questionnaire which consisted of 64 items. The data analysis uses descriptive statistics, correlation and regression. The correlation analysis found that there is a negative relationship between the permissive style and the resilience while the autoritative style and the emotional intelligence have significant positive relationships with resilience. Regression analysis also found that the permissive style contributes significantly negative to resiliency while the authoritative style and emotional intelligence contribute significantly positive. Theoritical implications of the study provides support that resiliency can be applied beyond the risk context while practically this study also provides guidelines on schools, parents, and Boarding School students in developing resilient minds through aspects of parenting style and emotional intelligence.
