The relationship between job safety climate, job satisfaction and healthy lifestyle behaviour towards mental health among paramedics

Over the last five years, there have been more assaults against paramedics than there were, a 32% rise. In the UK, paramedics reported encountering verbal abuse 80% of the time and had encountered physical assault. Nonetheless, 63.9% of paramedics in Malaysia claimed to feel overworked and receive low pay (53.1%). At Malaysian healthcare facilities, this study tries to identify the variables influencing paramedics' mental health. This research aims to determine the relationship between the job safety climate, job satisfaction and healthy lifestyle behaviours and mental health. Using survey questionnaires, the variables were assessed against the respondents' level of mental health in terms of job safety climate, job satisfaction, and healthy lifestyle behaviours involving 196 paramedics who work in healthcare institutions in Pejabat Kesihatan Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang, and that had a 100% response rate. In this study, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the hypotheses. The study's findings demonstrate that among paramedics in healthcare facilities in Pejabat Kesihatan Seberang Perai Selatan, the job safety climate and healthy lifestyle behaviours are positive and significantly associated with mental health whereas job satisfaction among paramedics is insignificantly positive towards mental health as well. The results also supported the idea that paramedics can lessen mental health problems by taking more initiatives focused on healthy lifestyles and a job safety climate. Deeper knowledge should be attained by examining the function of job safety climate, job satisfaction, and healthy lifestyle behaviour in predicting mental health among paramedics, especially in Malaysia.
