Summary:This study aimed to know the realities of lecturer’s attitudes in Libyan universities about the advantages and disadvantages of internet usage, to determine the negative psychological, healthy effects, and consequences of excessive use of internet. Also the study aimed to identify the role of internet network in increasing the level of performance in scientific research in Libyan universities .The researcher followed analytical descriptive approach in order to achieve the objectives of the study, and through the views of the survey sample of university lecturers, a questionnaire has been distributed to them and after that the questionnaire has been statistically analyzed and processed using the (SPSS) program.The study reached to that the Libyan universities lecturer's attitude to the internet was for the purposes of scientific research, communication with their colleagues and their students and to follow the news, especially those that specialize in information technology. Moreover, internet is very effective in developing scientific and social skills, and that, it is the basic necessity in the educational and scientific research process, which are mostly within the university premises.The results also showed that the effects of using the internet on public health and the daily activities was obvious through the confirmation of the respondents that they felt of some diseases as a result of sitting for long periods in front of the Internet.The study concluded by giving a set of recommendations, mainly on the importance of conducting future multiple and comprehensive age groups studies, to explain the widespread of using the Internet and its effects directly in the social life of individuals, because the studies is very limited in this subject, especially from the psychological perspective, to reduce the negative effects of this technology, and take benefits from its positive effects.
