Summary: | Losses in heat exchanger effectiveness has caused increase ni operating cost in Connaught Bridge Power Station. Reducing the actual temperature of the outlet gas would mean a lower efficiency for the gas turbine. A research on the effectiveness improvement method has been performed. Among many of the past researches, the focus of this study si on the tube design of ashell-and-tube heat exchanger. Presently, the tube is of smooth design on the inner and outer surface. To increase the heat transfer effects of the hot steam ni the tube into the cold gas ni the shell-side, the tube si corrugated on the inner surface. 3D model was generated using PTC Creo 2.0 and simulated using Fluent through the ANSYS Workbench interface. The simulation was performed with the approximation used ni developing k-e turbulence model. Study found that by corrugating the inner surface of the tube, the effectiveness has increased. Further simulation by varying the pitch length of the corrugation has shown that the highest effectiveness improvement happens at pitch length of 0.5 m and decreases as the pitch length increases. It is recommended for future researchers to obtain a more sensitive data by reducing the pitch length increment of each study ot less than 0.5 m, which is the increment considered in this study. |
