At present, 1 percent of the population which is about 65 million, requires to use a wheelchair in their daily life, and from that 65 million, 20 million users do not have a proper wheelchair for mobility. Thus, this research focuses on the specific type of users or patients who have difficulties in using traditional wheelchairs since it requires more energy. In this project, a gesture-controlled wheelchair prototype which is a wheelchair that can be controlled by using simple hand movements is developed. The user needs to wear a glove in which the accelerometer sensor is mounted on it. The function of this particular sensor is to detect the hand movement of the hand and it allows the user to move the wheelchair to the desired side by just tilting the sensor to forward, backward, right side, and left side. Additionally, the transmitter system and the receiver system are connected wirelessly through radio frequency waves. This affordable system makes the user's life more comfortable and less dependent on others to move around. The testing results clearly indicated that the prototype worked as desired and was able to achieve the desired movement via the hand gesture. Based on the percent success rate of the prototype system, it should be developed so the unfortunate can own a proper wheelchair that is suitable for them at an affordable price. Lastly, since the system uses only four simple hand movements to operate, thus it is easier to operate or learned by all types of users. 2023-05-03T16:47:12Z 2023-05-03T16:47:12Z 2020-09 https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/21399 en application/pdf
