Description
Summary:In the textbook analysis of the performance of fins, it is assumed that the temperature at the attachment of the fin is known. It is a convenient assumption but it is not correct. The purpose of the attaching fins to a base surface is to have a greater surface area for convection and enhance the heat transfer rate. The numerical investigation is to be carried out using ANSYS heat conduction software. Taking advantage of the repetitious feature of fins, the simulation will be carried out using half of the fins. Furthermore, the fin variables are transformed into dimensionless parameter. Chief among the investigated parameters is the surface heat transfer coefficient and the thermal conductivity of the fin material. Through the project, the temperature depression can be examined.
