Description
Summary:The production and seed quality of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) crop is strongly influenced by two main factors which are genetic and environment. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the growth performance of ‘Cikuray’ soybean sown at three different dates. Pot experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three sowing dates (1st October 2016, 1st December 2016, 1st February 2017) and six replicates. For incubation experiment, three replicates of 50 seeds were germinated at seven constant temperatures of 13oC, 15oC, 17.5oC, 22.5oC, 27.5oC, 30oC and 32.5oC. ‘Cikuray’ soybean had a base temperature at 11.4oC, optimum temperature of 27.4oC and maximum temperature of 32.6oC. Thermal time (Tt) was used to quantify the vegetative and reproductive development. From this research, the Tt requirement in sub-optimal range was 50 oCd and supra-optimal range was recorded with 16 oCd. The average Tt to emergence was ~ 53oCd across all sowing dates. The average Tt requirement for phyllochron was ~81 oCd/ leaf for all sowing dates. Besides, the average Tt required for seeds developed into axillary leaf appearance was ~947 oCd for three sowing dates. The average Tt requirement for time to flowering and pod formation from emergence was ~2094 oCd and ~2434 oCd respectively based on first and second sowing date. ‘Cikuray’ soybean required 3000 oCd to reach pod maturation from emergence for seeds sown on 1st October 2016. The average matured pods formed in each pot was ~48 pods for first and second sowing date. On average, seeds sown on 1st October 2016 produce one seed in each pod and the seed yield is 17.81g/m2 . The results revealed that seed sown at 1st December 2016 required shorter duration to develop from emergence until first axillary leaf appearance. For reproductive stage, seeds sown on 1st December 2016 had higher productivity compared to first sowing date as higher number of pods were recorded.
