Summary:Escherichia coli 0157: H7 is one of well-known pathogen that causes foodborne disease. The efficiency of latest commercial detergents in inhibiting and killing E. coli 0157: H7 has not been fully elucidated. The detergents can lose their efficiency and leads to bacterial survival rates increase. The main aim for this study is to ascertain the efficiency of selected commercial detergents to inhibit or kill E. co/i 0157: H7. The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration on different concentration of varied brands detergents were compared. Six out of eight detergents showed a minimum inhibitory and bactericidal properties against E. coli 0157: H7. Among the tested commercial detergents, Sunlight showed the most efficient detergent by having lowest minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentration. Only Good Maid and Top did not show any bactericidal properties against E. coli 0157: H7. This study is important to clarify the efficiency of commercial detergents for our knowledge of both public and environmental health for making a right choice in cleaning activity
