Description
Summary:In this study, the effects of agitation rate which suit the Enterococcus faecium No.78 on lactic acid production in a batch fermentation system was investigated. MRS (de Man, Rogosa and Sharp )-sago starch was used as the sole carbon source on direct lactic acid production by Enterococcus faecium No.78. The concentration of sago starch used was 20 gIL. The experiment of lactate fermentation using Enterococcus faecium No.78 was carried out on three different agitation rate settings (100, 150 and 200 rpm) at 3TC and pH 6.5 with working volume 300 mL. More lactate production, higher starch degradation and higher glucose consumption was observed when agitation rate was set at 150 rpm. However, the growth of Enterococcus faecium No.78 shows more a less the same with three different agitation rate.
