The effect of different levels of chicken waste : saw dust mixtures on growth and biomass production of Chinese spinach, amaranthus tricolor
Chicken manure and saw dust are valuable organic wastes that can be utilized in vegetable fanning thru the concept of nutrient recycling and maintenance of soil organic matter. This study examined the effects of different ratios of chicken manure: saw dust (25CM:75SD, 50CM:50S0 and 75CM:25S0) and th...

Summary: | Chicken manure and saw dust are valuable organic wastes that can be utilized in vegetable fanning thru the concept of nutrient recycling and maintenance of soil organic matter. This study examined the effects of different ratios of chicken manure: saw dust (25CM:75SD, 50CM:50S0 and 75CM:25S0) and the different levels of each ratio (0%, 10%,20%, 30% and 40%) on the overall growth performance and production of Chinese spinach, Amaranthus tricoloyfhe findings indicated that 30% and 40% of 50:50 CM: SO; 30% and 40% of75:25 CM: SO; and 100% CM yielded 3.145-5.54 kg! 2m2 which is equivalent the desired yield of 1-2 kg/m2 of the leafy vegetable. It could also be noted that the inclusion of more chicken manure would result in the increase of the height of the amaranth together with the accumulated biomass. The presence of 100% chicken manure markedly improved the overall performance of the amaranths as both the values of the dependant variables outshined the values in other ratios of treatments. The plot treated with 100% saw dusts has the lowest production among all the treatments incurred. The utilization of organic matters particularly animal wastes are therefore highly recommended in plant production for soil conservation which can contribute towards sustainable agriculture. |
