Characterization of methanol extracts from Eusideroxylon Zwageri and Potoxylon Melagangai

Belian (Eu. ei(lerorrlon irugeri) is one of the heaviest and most durable timber species in the world. Heartwood and sapwood of Belian (Eusideroxt"! on _rugeri) and Malagangai (Potoxv! on melagangai) were extracted using solvent extraction with methanol. The mass of crude extracts of the sp...

Heartwood and sapwood of Belian (Eusideroxt"! on _rugeri) and Malagangai (Potoxv! on melagangai) were extracted using solvent extraction with methanol. The mass of crude extracts of the species are 5.6% and 4.2% to Belian (Eu. sideroxi lon wageri) and Malagangai (Potoxt'lon meiagangai) respectively. Separation of compounds based upon polarity can be carried out using Thin Layer Chromatography using solvent system of hexane: ethyl acetate (1: 3. v-v). FT-IR analysis on hexane fractions of Belian shows the presence of functional groups such as aryl cyclic ether group. FT-IR analysis on hexane fractions of Malagangai shows the presence of functional groups such as carbonyl group.
