Description
Summary:Belian (Eu. ei(lerorrlon irugeri) is one of the heaviest and most durable timber species in the world. Heartwood and sapwood of Belian (Eusideroxt"! on _rugeri) and Malagangai (Potoxv! on melagangai) were extracted using solvent extraction with methanol. The mass of crude extracts of the species are 5.6% and 4.2% to Belian (Eu. sideroxi lon wageri) and Malagangai (Potoxt'lon meiagangai) respectively. Separation of compounds based upon polarity can be carried out using Thin Layer Chromatography using solvent system of hexane: ethyl acetate (1: 3. v-v). FT-IR analysis on hexane fractions of Belian shows the presence of functional groups such as aryl cyclic ether group. FT-IR analysis on hexane fractions of Malagangai shows the presence of functional groups such as carbonyl group.
