Summary: | This research is intended to find out difficulties and problems faced by Form Four
English Language teachers in Serian District in the teaching of a Literature Component;
The Short Stories. There are thirty-five teachers involved in this research and the
instrument used was Questionnaires. Besides responding to the statements in the
questionnaires, the teachers involved are required, if any, to state their problems with
regards to the teaching of the component. They may even allow giving their suggestions
on how to overcome the problems. All the information gathered were then analysed and
discuss quantitatively.
The finding shows that these teachers are having problems in their teaching of the
literature component. They are having problems on how to make their teaching of the
component more effective, how they can change their students' attitude and building their
knowledge so that their students can understand more of the component. These teachers
also stated their needs to attend workshops, seminars, courses related to approaches,
methods and techniques of teaching the component effectively. They also stated that their
students are another source of their problems in the teaching of the component
effectively. Besides both them and their students, the teachers also stated that they are
having problems with the lack of resources for references and teaching modules for
effective teaching of the component. These teachers, finally gave some suggestions on
how the teaching and learning of the component can be done effectively based on their
day-to-day experience with their students. |
