Summary:River cruising has been part of Sabah tourism product for quite sometime. However, apart from Kinabatangan River, it can be argued that the existence of river cruise tourism in other location in Sabah has not been in the limelight of tourism promotion. The fact is, there are communities along other rivers in Sabah did and some are still involved offering river cruises along rivers in their localities. These community operated river cruise packages mainly associated with wildlife viewing that includes macaques, proboscis monkey and fireflies. This articles aims to highlight these community operated river cruise businesses throughout Sabah, specifically related to their development, opportunities and challenges. Suggestions towards the betterment of river cruising tourism is offered, making this activity a sustainable community based tourism platform.
