Determination of heavy metals in selected vegetables

The aim of this study is to determine the concentration level of heavy metals such as Aluminium (Al), Boron (B), Cadmium (Cd), iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Manganese (Mn), and Zinc (Zn).in samples. There were three (3) types of fruiting vegetables namely brinjal (Solanum melongena), chilli (Capsicum anmum)...

Description
Summary:The aim of this study is to determine the concentration level of heavy metals such as Aluminium (Al), Boron (B), Cadmium (Cd), iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Manganese (Mn), and Zinc (Zn).in samples. There were three (3) types of fruiting vegetables namely brinjal (Solanum melongena), chilli (Capsicum anmum), lady's finger (Hibiscus esculentus), and soil where each type of vegetable was grown as well as irrigation water that was used to irrigate the vegetables which were from two different location, Kampung Badang, Pantai Cahaya Bulan, Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Kampung Chekok, Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu ,Kelantan. The fruity vegetable sample and soil of vegetables were extracted using wet digestion method. The analyzed was done by using HACH DR5000 Spectrophotometer. The samples were taken from farmland at Kampung Badang, PCB and Kampung Chekok, PC, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. For the water parameters, water sample was taken from tap water because both locations were using same water sources which were ground water that was supplied by Kelantan Water. The results shown that Boron (B) concentration was high in vegetables tissues at both locations with range 2.1 ppm to 2.467 ppm. As overall, the high concentration of Aluminium was found in soil for both location with ranges 2.858 ppm to 3.5 ppm. The concentration elements of heavy metals in irrigation water at Kampung Badang, PCB in sequences B>Mn>Fe>Pb>Zn>AI>Cd with 3.5 ppm>1.105 ppm>0.233 ppm>0.22 ppm>0.217 ppm> 0.214 ppm>0.0853 ppm respectively. On the other hand, the concentration of harmful element such as Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Manganese (Mn) and Zinc (Zn) for both locations were within the prescribed safety limits.
