| Summary: | Benchmarking has proved to be an effective method for identifying the best practices and improving the quality and processes in an organization. The technique has been used widely in business and industry for couple of decades, and within a decade the concept has been broadly embraced and applied in higher education. This paper describes the effectiveness of the benchmarking application practices in higher education from the different perspectives to
improve quality. The paper also presents a critical review of research works that have been done around the world in the area of benchmarking in higher education. The purpose of this review is to identify the trend, critical issues, topics of focus, research methodologies,findings, and implications of the research done, finally, some pragmatic suggestions are offered to improve the quality of local universities. |
