The factors investigated were the school environment and parental involvement. A questionnair developed by the researcher was distributed to 60 Year Six students of that school. The following were the major findings of the study: 1. The students perceived their school environment did not help or encourage them much in the process of learning English Language. 61.7% of the students ‘do not agree at all’ and ‘somewhat agree’ the school environment encourage them to learn English. More than 60% of them ‘do not agree at all’ and ‘somewhat agree’ that there are a lot of activities in the school which motivates them to learn English. 2. In holding English Language activities, conducive environment and adequate facilities, more than 60% of the students said that they were ‘not successful’ and ‘fairly successful’. 3. Quite a high percentage of the students responded that their parents ‘never’ and ‘seldom’ give them support in the learning of English. 4. More than 50% responded that their parents ‘never’ and ‘seldom’ participated in the school programmes.
