Summary:Generally, this study attempts to find out the effects of pre-writing activities on the writing performance of low English proficiency year four students. Besides that, another aim of the study is to create an awareness especially among the teachers about the effectiveness of process writing generally and pre-writing specifically. Nevertheless, in this study the pre-writing activities used are diagramming, brainstorming and listing. In order to cany out the study, 40 students have been chosen to be the samples of the study. They are divided into two groups which are experimental group and controlled groups. The data for the study is collected through the means of pre and post tests. Then, the results for both tests is analyzed to make conclusions and interpretations about the effects of pre-writing activities on the writing performance of the samples involved. From the test it is found that the samples from the experimental group perform better in their writing after they practice pre-writing activities. The improvement of performance can be seen in two aspects only that are the content and organizations of ideas
