Summary: | Issues on emergence of drug resistance bacteria has become a serious problem which lead to the development of drugs in the pharmaceutical industry. The aim of this study is to screen for antimicrobial properties of newly synthetic drugs called β,β-diketoester between different types of pathogenic microbes including Bacillus cereus (B. cereus), Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis), Eschericia coli (E. coli), Klebsiella pneumonia (K. preumoniae), Rhizopus and Candida albicans in different type of concentration (12.5mg/ml, 25mg/ml, 50mg/ml and 100mg/ml) while determining the quorum sensing activity of the different concentration of the compound by measuring the inhibition zone of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) as well as evaluating the toxicity of the compound β,β-diketoester using brine shrimp lethality test. The result of this study demonstrated that β,β-diketoester is effective in inhibiting the growth of B. subtilis, B. cereus, K. pneumonia and Rhizopus at all concentration ranging from 12.5mg/ml to 100mg/ml. This study also showed that the compound failed to display any antimicrobial properties against E. coli and Candida albicans. Not only that, β,β-diketoester also inhibit quorum sensing activity in P. aeruginosa in concentration of 25mg/ml, 50mg/ml and 100mg/ml while having the LC50 at concentration of 50mg/ml. In conclusion, the compound β,β-diketoester possessed good antimicrobial activity and anti-quorum sensing activity while showing along non-toxic properties. |
