Description
Summary:Administration in the Kanowit District was originally recorded with the establishment of Emma Fortress in 1851 .Fortress Emma is a title given to the younger sister of Rajah Brooke. It was built specifically to defend itself from the Iban attacks from Ulu Rejang and the Rajang-Melanau and other deterrents living along the river. Originally, Emma Fort was located in the heart of the city and most of it was made of bamboo. Upon completion of his construction, Emma Fort was captured by the Dayaks. After a few years later it was transferred to the new site which is in Kanowit River Estuary.
