Summary: | The main purpose of this project is to study the potential of using waste eggshell as
activated carbon in removal of oil and grease from industrial waste water. The dried
raw waste eggshell is first grinded into particle size of 0.25 mm, then chemically
activated using activating agent, Zinc chloride, ZnCl2 and Phosphoric Acid, H3PO4
are carbonized at different sets of temperature (500oC and 600oC) and activation time
of (60 minutes and 90 minutes) into activated carbon. The characterization of waste
eggshell based activated carbon is carried out using the surface area analyser
(Micromeritics ASAP 2020) and the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to
determine which set of parameters produces the largest surface area estimated using
the BET theory (SBET) which is directly related to the effectiveness of that
particular adsorbent. |
