Description
Summary:The Semantan formation was named after the Semantan river in the central belt of Peninsular Malaysia. The distribution of the formation is from the North of Kelantan to the South of Johor. It consists of Middle to Upper Triassic volcanic rock and sedimentary rock such as mudstone. Over the years, the population in the East Coast of Malaysia has increased, and as such, the government has put its focus to develop this region, which affected areas in Semantan formation. Semantan formation has little information provided in the literature about its provenance and detailed geotechnical properties or soil databases, thus limiting geologists' and engineers' ability to make early forecasts about future development in this area.
