Besides being an important pillar of national growth, this sector contributes a significant negative impact on the environment. A handsome consumption of natural assets in terms of construction materials along with huge energy requirements during the different phases of its life cycle ultimately result in generation of different environmental burdens among which carbon footprint is the most abundant and damaging. The current anthropogenic trend of population growth, rapid urbanization, industrialization and economic development prosperity would exert a serious pressure on the basic housing infrastructure to meet the demands of future.
