Description
Summary:Chronic and heavy drinking alters level of neurotransmitters that may cause Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD) and lead to lifelong irreversible brain damages. According to the definition, AUD includes both Alcohol Abuse (AA) and Alcohol Dependence (AD). Practically, AUD screening is based on subjective assessments involving self-assessment questionnaires. Unfortunately, the questionnaires are highly subjective due to memory problems and dishonesty of AUD patients. It may mislead the screening process. We hypothesized that utilizing objective techniques such as electroencephalogram (EEG) can improve AUD screening. In accordance to the literature, it is evident that EEG based techniques may improve the efficiency of AUD screening. However, ^according to our literature survey, there is still no such EEG based technique that can be applied both for AA and AD.
