Description
Summary:Carbon steel pipelines are widely used in oil and gas industry. To ensure the reliability and long-term performance of the pipelines, coatings tailored for corrosion protection of metallic substrates are of the utmost relevance.Although there is a strong emphasis on the development of advanced functional and smart coatings, the need for a more advanced coating for conventional applications has yet to be fulfilled.Recently, graphene attracted significant attention due to its robust and inert properties. In this study, we report on the development of graphene oxide-zinc oxide hybrids (GO-ZnO) applied as fillers to reduce the permeability of epoxy coatings applied in high pressure carbon dioxide gas conditions. The structural stability of GO-ZnO nanosheets were compared with GO sheets using Raman Spectroscopy. The identification of mechanical strength of nanocomposites after subjected to rapid carbon dioxide gas decompression conditions at pressures 1, 25 and 65 bars were also obtained and discussed. Finally, the mechanism of protection against CO2 gas rapid decompression conditions was established. © 2023, Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn Bhd.
