Description
Summary:Much research had shown that poor acoustics, humidity discomfort, and poor lighting systems can lead to occupational health problems, especially somatic complaints. The frequency of somatic complaints is among the symptoms that employees exhibit and may indicate that they could suffer serious health problems in the long-run. These complaints are inclusive of the pain in the upper extremity, upper back, waist, legs, and etc. Research has to be undertaken to investigate the contribution of the workstation environment like acoustics, lighting, and humidity towards somatic complaints. This research utilised a questionnaire sent to 100 respondents. They work as manufacturing operators at a multinational electronic manufacturing organisation. The result of the multiple regression analysis showed that 24.1% of variation in somatic complaints is caused by the acoustics, lighting, and humidity system. Hypotheses testing showed that lighting and humidity have a significant relationship with somatic complaints. From the correlation analysis, the humidity system shows the strongest relationship (42.1%) with somatic complaints compared with the other factors.
