Summary:Population ageing or the increasing proportion of older population is a 21st century phenomenon. The increase in the older population is a direct result of improvements in health conditions, together with lower fertility and lower mortality rates, as well as greater average life expectancy.Today population ageing has become a challenge not only for developed countries but developing ones as well. This article focuses on the situation of the older population in Malaysia. The last part of the article discusses the contributions of Malaysian scholars on research of the older persons in Malaysia.
