Summary: | Malaysia face the challenge in finding the right fuel mix in order to ensure sustainable and secure energy supply. Moving toward 2050, the fuel cell energy system is targeting to be one of potential green energy. In order to strengthen the implementation of fuel cell in Malaysia, this research aim: a) to determine the life cycle analysis of fuel cell-based electricity generation from environment and economic aspect b) to develop a model of life cycle fuel cell-based electricity generation for environment and economic aspect. The case study involves with selected biomass mill that utilizes their residue to generate electricity in Malaysia. Interview and direct observation used to get in-depth information that crucial for fulfilling the second objective. Life cycle cost for both individual and centralized system are RM 2.56 / kWh and RM 7.04 / kWh, respectively. Then the carbon dioxide emissions are 0.2034 CO2-EQ / kWh and 0.61 CO2-EQ / kWh. The optimum design of power plant in Sarawak alone generated 847.91 MW and in Pahang is about 604.26 MW. The implication of this research can encourage the utilization of renewable energy in parallel to government policy to move with green energy and help to achieve the target of 4000MW of RE capacity in 2030. This significant serve as guideline for policy maker in the implementation more renewable energy in Malaysia |
