Summary: | Corruption is presently one of the major challenges facing the human race. The world
over, corruption is increasingly being seen as a threat to human existence to the extent
that some commentators have called for it to be recognised as a ‘crime against humanity.’
Indeed, corruption has been identified as the main obstacle to the realisation of good
governance, sustainable development and Millennium Development Goals. It has monumental effects on the political, economic, social and cultural well-being of societies. Nigeria in particular is richly endowed with qualitative human and natural resources but yet to find an appropriate and rightful place among the committee of nations in the world. One major reason that is responsible for this socio-economic stagnation is attributable to corruption and all effort geared at stemming the tide appears to be unsuccessful. The
paper examines the effectiveness of ICPC on corruption and good governance in Nigeria
between 2011 and 2018. Structural Functionalism theory will be used as a guide of this
paper. Research design of the study is content analysis. The paper concludes that
corruption has negatively impacted on infrastructural development in Nigeria, and the
activities of the ICPC are yet to reflect on the level of corruption in Nigeria. |
