Delayed cargo due to the congestion may cause a chain reaction impact which potentially hikes transportation cost that is finally borne by the consumer. This study attempted to identify the causes of truck congestion at the port gate in Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP). The qualitative research approach is used in conducting this study. Data is collected through an observation by site visit at the port gate and door-to-door interview which consists of five (5) observations. Collected data are then analysed by using content analysis technique. The findings have discovered that the main cause of the congestion at the port gate is due to trailers with improper or incomplete documents. An Improper or Incomplete Document Trailer (IDT) on average will take more than six (6) minutes for gate clearance, while a Proper Document Trailer (PDT) need less than 120 seconds 2018 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed application/pdf en http://repo.uum.edu.my/26432/1/alexander.PDF Jiran, Alexander (2018) Truck congestion at the port gate: a case study of sapangar bay container port in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
