This study examines the resiliency of the Malaysian economy by examining the impact of economic shocks on fiscal balance using standard time series method for the period 1980 - 2012. The study uncovers evidence of a significant impact of the world recession 1985 on fiscal balance. Unemployment rates and inflation are also significant in determining fiscal balance.
