Description
Summary:The study was carried out to determine the relationship between principals' communicator style and teacher' commitment to school. Ten dimensions of communication style and three dimensions of commitment were considered. The ten dimensions of communication style were Friendly, Impression Learning, Relaxed, Attentive, Contentiona, Animated, Expressive, Dramatic, Open and Dominant, while the three dimensions of Commitment were Identification, Involvement and Loyalty. A survey instrument based on Norton's (1983) and Cook's (1980) was used in this study. A Pilot survey was carried out and the Cronbach's alpha was reported at 0.72, indicating that the instrument was fairly reliable. One hundred and ninety respondents from five secondary schools in Kuala Krai, Kelantan were selected by convenient sampling. Data were analysed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Test of significance using Pearson 'r' at 0.05 level of significance was used to test the research hypotheses. Result showed that Relaxed and Attentive principal's communication style dimensions were positively related to teachers' commitment to school. Thus, all school principals must be given exposure and courses related to communication styles so that they would be able to interact with their teachers and thus enhance their commitment to the school.
