The credibility of online news in Malaysia depends on the validity and honesty of a reporter. An entertainment reporter plays a role in the production of entertainment news both locally and abroad. The weakness of online news has sparked a phenomenon of the issue of defamation, false statements and disputes involving the country. The unethical writing among reporter need to be addressed by entertainment journalists and Persatuan Wartawan dan Penulis Hiburan Malaysia (WHAM). The Gatekeeping theory was used to censor and suppress information that was incredible and may threatened a country. Therefore, this research aimed to assess the factor of credibility in entertainment news writing and ethics practiced by entertainment journalists. Additionally, the study aimed to study the role of WHAM in maintaining the credibility of entertainment journalists. The final aim of this study is to prove the credibility of journalists in producing entertainment news ethically, such in other field. In-depth interviews and qualitative content analysis were used in this research. A total of seven informants were interviewed and ten entertainment news reports were analysed. The selection of entertainment reporters was from different online news portal, namely Berita Harian, Harian Metro, Mstar, New Straits Times (NST) and Utusan. The findings shows that credibility factors such as fairness, honesty, trustworthiness and news validity were all emphasized by the entertainment reporters. This is also the case in the findings of the content analysis of online news for the five portals that had the author's names and referred to the valid sources. This proves the credibility of entertainment journalists who practice journalism with the correct code of ethic similar to that of other journalists. This study concludes that the credibility of online entertainment news writing is built on the basis of the role played by the journalists themselves. WHAM also has the credibility and integrity to protect entertainment reporters from any criticism in the world of entertainment journalism.
