Summary: | The objective of this study is to investigate the workers' perception towards the effectiveness of managerial communication skills among manager/officers at Gula Padang Terap. This study comprises of three major departments: the administration, the plantation and the mill.
Two set of questionnaires were constructd to measure the workers' perception of their managers' communication abilities and the frequency of practicing effective managerial communication.
Using stratified random sampling, 230 workers and 19 managers from 828 population were selected from the three operations area. Twelve hypotheses were constructed to be tested in this study. These hypotheses may be categorized into: first, to examine the workers' perceptions about
their managers communication skills. Second, to determine the frequency of using effective communication among the managers and finally, to measure the differences in the frequency of communication between the managers and the workers.
The finding using Chi-squares methods revealed that there was a significant difference between workers' perceptions of their managers' communication skills at Gula Padang Terap. In other words, communication practices at this factory are poor. Thus, some relevant actions should be taken immediately to improve the current situation.
Finally, this thesis attempts to offer some suggestions in dealing with the phenomena.
