Summary:The study focuses on the two aspects of human resource development that is the demand and supply of knowledge workers in the new economic era based on knowledge and its relation to education. Specifically the objective of this research is to analyse the patterns and problems the labour market, to analyse the demand and supply of knowledge workers as well as to analyse the relationship between education and the supply of knowledgeable labour force. This research takes the form of a library research using secondary data collected from various sources and information from related agencies. Labour market analysis showed the low supply and demand for knowledge workers compared to other developed nations. The shift to an ICT based system of education forms a strong basis in moulding an information society which is a prerequisite for development of knowledge based economy. The South Korean experience showed that its success in creating an informed society as well as narrowing the digital divide is the prime factor for the success in its transition to a knowledge based economy.
