Summary:This study attempts to investigate the relationship between self esteem and Bumiputera students academic achievement in Kulim District of Kedah. The required data were collected through the use of questionnaires. A total of 285 questionnaires were distributed to the student in form 4 Science and Art classes from eight schools. These selected school consists of 4 rural schools and 4 urban schools. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between self esteem and academic achievement based on factor such as family relationship, teachers, peers, anger-feeling, social confidence and health. Through this research outcomes, it showed that academic achievement can be improved by fostering high self-esteem among our student. The research also showed that students with high self-esteem need to be exposed with the right and effective techniques in learning process in pursuing academic excellent. The research also showed that high self esteem alone did not guarantee good academic performance without effective learning process in answering examination questions.
