Description
Summary:The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between the demographic factors with conflict management styles of primary school administrators in the hinterland of Sarawak. The demographic factors in this study include gender, age, period of service, hierarchical level, and ethnic. The instrument for the conflict management styles used in this study was based on the Two Dimensional Model by Thomas-Kilmann (1974). There are five styles in the model namely, avoiding, collaboration, compromising, accommodation, and competition styles. Respondents in the study were selected from all the school administrators in primary school from hinterland Selangau, Sarawak. The school administrators were the headmaster, the senior assistant (curriculum), senor assistant (student affairs), and senior assistant (co-curriculum). Data collected from the respondents were analyzed using the SPSS version 12 program. Two types of data analysis were used, the descriptive analysis which uses the frequency, mean, and standard deviation, and the inference analysis which uses the t-test, and one way ANOVA. The finding shows that the collaboration styles obtained the highest mean (3.86), followed by the avoiding style with the mean of 3.80, compromising style with the mean of 3.76, accommodation style with the mean of 3.47 and lowest mean of 3.29 for the competition style. From the result there was no significant difference between all the conflict management styles with gender (t (51)= -1.26, p > .05), age (F (5,47) = .75, p > .05), period of service (F (2,50) = .88, p > .05), hierarchical level (F (3,49) + 1.55, p > .05), and ethnic (F (3,49) = 1.7., p > .05) among administrators in primary school in the hinterland of Sarawak
