| Summary: | Work force is one of the most important resources in an organisation or a department including that of construction industry. Systematic workforce planning in a specific
construction project is essential in handling the issue of sustaining the skilled work force and avoiding unnecessary wastages in implementing a project.This research was conducted to identify the factors or variables influencing the demand for workforce based on skilled trade in the construction of schools around Klang Valley.Questionnaires which have been distributed to those responsible for the
implementation of the projects namely main contractor and Public Works Department (PWD) have proven that the main factor in determining the demand for work force is
the size of the project measured from the cost of the project. Apart from the project size, other factors such as the complexity of the project and the expertise of the
contractor’s project management team also contribute to the demand for work force in school construction project.
The research has also identified the present composition of skilled trade and the required numbers of work force needed to undertake school construction project. |
