| Summary: | The purpose of this study is to determine the level of occupational awareness regarding to workers safety and health in their working place. A group of workers from Primaboard division, one of the sub-units controlled by Hume Cemboard Berhad which produced Cellulose Fiber Cement Boards in Kantan Industrial Zone, Chemor, Perak are selected as the research sample. They were chosen as respondents since they were exposed to high degree of
dust inhaling, noise and accidents at their working place.
170 respondents who are divided into two working level of occupations were asked to answer a questionnaire of 30 questions which consists of three sections, including demographic factors related to respondent occupational
level and health. In section two, the researcher try to investigate the level of workers participation in occupational and health committee. On the other
hand, section three measures their level of awareness in their working place. The research shows that relationship exists between levels of occupational and awareness of safety and health. Level of awareness of safety and health
appear to be high among tactical level compared to operational level. Whereas, training level influence to enhance workers awareness only 30%. This research also indicates that even though high level of awareness exists
among workers, high numbers of accidents still occurred. For further research it is suggested to conclude more sample size of workers including the strategic level of management. |
