Summary: | The aim of this study was to identify the perceptions of the Science and Mathematics teachers towards the usage of ICT equipment and the supporting materials in the teaching and learning processes. This study was carried out on six teachers and 200 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuala Perlis, Perlis.
The method of respondent-questionnaire and interview were applied for collecting data and the data collected was analyzed by using Statistical Packages for the Social
Sciences (SPSS) programme. The design of this study was in the form of descriptive.
The survey data revealed that: (a) all Science and Mathematics teachers have been exposed to the usage of ICT equipment and the supporting materials through trainings and courses, (b) Science and Mathematics teachers are in the readiness stage to use ICT equipment and the supporting materials in the process of teaching and learning, (c) Science and Mathematics teachers have positive perception towards the usage of ICT equipment and the supporting materials in the process of teaching and learning. In the final analysis, the study provided significant evidence that teachers are prepared to teach Science and Mathematics subjects in English.
Some problems were identified through the interview analysis. Among the problems were command of the English language among students were weak; lack of reference books and teaching and learning materials such as textbooks and software; the availability of places and equipment; as well as problems caused by the relevant authorities such as school administrators and officers at department or the ministry level.
