Description
Summary:Urban stormwater models are widely used as a tool to assist engineers and researchers in illustrating the effects of alternative strategies proposed by users. The aim of this paper is to evaluate design approach of the urban drainage system for a study site at Sepang, Selangor. The study carried out the simulation and analysis of peak discharge of the drainage network based on rainfall event at 5 years ARI. Storage facilities have been provided to cater the runoff from developed areas in order to remain the existing or pre-development peak discharge. The detention pond was designed up to 100 years ARI to ensure it was sufficient to cater for approximately 100 year peak flow. Based on the result, it was found that the peak flow of the study area was much lower as compared to the original report. Thus, the hydraulic channels in some sub catchments were reviewed to obtain the appropriate size of channels. XP-SWMM was capable to determine the flood location in the system by showing the performance of hydraulic channels. Thus, the model will meet, and suite with MASMA conceptual design and XPSWMM is a reliable tool that should be seriously considered by engineers and researchers.
