RELIABILITY OF WIND AND WAVE HINDCAST IN COMPARISON WITH MEASURED ENVIRONMENTAL LOADS

Civil engineering (General) Missing of measured metocean data produces unreliable results to the analysis in the offshore meteorology and oceanographic data. Fortunately, hindcast system is generally available and parametrically consistent. Therefore, it has become a common tool to evaluate the metocean condition in several regions of the world ocean. The hindcast is available to present long term historical metocean information which provides consistency on the parameters of the data. However, hindcast data cannot emulate the accuracy as the measured data. Consequently, validating on the accuracy of the hindcast with the measured metocean data of three (3) operating regions in Malaysian water is performed using SEAFINE in obtaining correlation factors. The results presented herein indicated that SEAFINE wind speeds are typically higher than the measured wind speeds. However, the SEAFINE significant wave height agrees well when compared to the measured data. It is recommended that the adjustment factor reflecting and 95% interval represent must be adopted in interpretating the hindcast data 2012-10 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed application/pdf http://eprints.utp.edu.my/8127/1/MARTEC-2012-full-Paper-RELIABILITY_OF_WIND_AND_WAVE_HINDCAST_IN_COMPARISON_WITH_MEASURED_ENVIRONMENTAL_LOADS.pdf Mayeetae, Z. and Liew, M.
