The wave force calculations were based on the Morison Equa-tion applied at the instantaneous position of the structure. Experimentally, the classic spar model to a scale of 1:100 was tested in random wave combined with current. The trends of the results were similar and the magnitudes fairly close, thus validating the accuracy of the numerical model.
