Summary:A floating breakwater named Wave Suppress System (WSS) was previously developed to arrest the destructive power of water waves. It was experimentally proven to be an effective energy dissipater for scattering the energy of prevailing waves mainly through breaking, turbulence, reflection and friction. The present study aimed at enhancing the performance of WSS by the addition of keel plates of varying porosity. Laboratory tests were conducted with the aim of determining the wave transmission characteristics of WSS with different permeability and under varying regular wave conditions generated in a wave flume. The test re-sults showed that the degree of wave attenuation of WSS increases with the increase in porosity of the WSS keel plates. Wave attenuation was also found to be greater when the system was exposed to steeper waves. The influence of water depth to wave attenuation becomes remarkable for WSS keel plates with higher po-rosity.
