Description
Summary:The strengthening of reinforced concrete structures by means of externally bonded fiber reinforced polymers FRPs is becoming an attractive technique for upgrading existing structures. Previous laboratory investigations have shown that the shear capacities of beams can be increased considerably with this strengthening technique. In this paper an experimental program consist of 14 specimens has been conducted. The specimens were divided into two groups A and B. Specimens in group A were tested under pure shear by applying the load at the centre of the specimen while specimens in other group were tested to study the efficiency of using CFRP under shear-moment interaction case by applying the load at certain distance from centre of specimens. The CFRP composite strips were used herein to strengthen concrete externally at a known failure plane to resist shear stresses in shear friction. The results showed that using CFRP was an effective technique to improve the performance of R.C elements under cyclic shear loading.
