Their improper placement could lead to disastrous consequences during fire and causing pollution to surrounding soil and underground water should leakage occur to their under storage tanks. In Surabaya metropolitan, the growth of motor cycle is around 12% per year and the total number of car and motor cycle is up to 1.6 million, hence there is always a need to establish new petrol filling stations to add to the 90 already existing stations in the Surabaya. A suitable petrol filling station sites must have environmental safe criteria’s and attributes that will enable them to be located in safe location so that there is no unacceptable risk to surrounding people or the environment. Therefore this study has the objectives of assisting the proper placement of the new stations and the suitability location assessment of the existing petrol filling stations with the aid of Geographical Information System (GIS).
