Description
Summary:This paper discusses the application of empirical approach to estimate the water saturation from inverted seismic data as quick look tool to delineate the hydrocarbon. This empirical approach is based on rock physics relation of (Qp-1/Qs-1) with bulk modulus and shear modulus. A series of test was performed on a set of data from Malay Basin Field. The test consist of numerical testing to find out the formulation of water saturation in term of seismic properties, Well log test was performed to test the formula in the well domain and to determine the constants in the equation through curve matching method and the last is the example implementation of water estimation from inverted pre stack seismic data set. The result showed that the formula is potential to be used to transform the inverted seismic data into water saturation. The coefficient correlation calculated from estimated water saturation and log of water saturation is about 0.6-0.7. Implementation on seismic data, the estimated water saturation is shown that the potential reservoir is interpretable and matches with log data.
