Optimization of linear generator designs for wave energy converter (WEC) system in Malaysia

This paper presents the optimization process of proposed generator designs for Wave Energy Converter (WEC) system in Malaysia. Two initial generator designs have been proposed and their open-circuit simulation results have been acquired. Both designs are optimized in term of total number of coil tur...

This paper presents the optimization process of proposed generator designs for Wave Energy Converter (WEC) system in Malaysia. Two initial generator designs have been proposed and their open-circuit simulation results have been acquired. Both designs are optimized in term of total number of coil turns, split ratio and pitch ratio to increase the performance of the machines. Finite element analysis software, Ansys Maxwell is used to conduct the simulation. From the optimizations, the optimal values of the optimized parameters for the designs are obtained. Optimization process conducted has optimized the designs in term of induced back EMF by more than 25. © 2016 IEEE.
