Description
Summary:Fatigue limit for drawn steel wire used for wire rope application is vital in determining its overall usage. The properties will determine the long-term reliability assessment of the drawn steel wire rope. The methodology is based on the computed local stress field in the critical trellis contact zone of a stranded wire rope by FE simulations and the estimated fretting damage of the drawn wire material. The result obtained by stress ratio of 0.1 and 0.25 shows an increase in the lifecycle of the wire when greater stress ratio used. The stress concentration obtained through computational effort that is based on strain and compared with the original input file gave approximately 4 times higher the stress concentration in the grip region. The fatigue limit for applied stress ratio from the experiment based on the previous test was determined at 400MPa.
